What is the Brooklynn Project?
Well, it happened a few years ago, we lost our beautiful daughter, Brooklynn O’Neill Densmore. She was enjoying her first day of spring break, riding ATV’s with her friends, on the back side of Mt. Spokane. The sun was shining, they were smiling, laughing and having a wonderful time together. Then, the moment when all our lives changed in an instant came. There was a terrible accident and the ATV flipped over and pinned her underneath. No matter what her friends did, they couldn’t get it off. When the Ambulance got there, they did everything they possibly could, but our beautiful baby girl, didn’t survive. She was only 14 years old, but by then she already had been volunteering for years, in her short but impacting life. Brooklynn had a huge heart for others, a massive love of life, and most of all she loved making people smile. She was loud and courageous and is greatly missed by us all.
So, to honor her, we decided to start finding ways to simply reach out and help those who were in need in our area. And…so the Brooklynn Project began. Our goal is to bless others and a bring a smile to everyone’s face. Just like our beautiful daughter, Brooklynn, always did for us.
The Brooklynn Project is now a non-profit organization that does events to help others. It started with what we first called the Project#28 (that was Brooklynns soccer number). We got supplies donated to fill 28 backpacks for the homeless. Along with the filled bags, we brought them full hot pizzas, a hot drink, a fuzzy warm blanket, an ear to listen to their stories, a smile and a hug to show them they are important. Since then, we have done things like volunteering at missions, shelters, and food banks. Taking supplies and food to the men’s shelter, bringing gift baskets and volunteering at a transitional home for battered women. We have one event that fills tons of vases with flowers and we delivered them to every room the VA hospice wing. We are always looking for ways to bless people!
On top of all that, since we started doing all this, we have noticed how many of others that are out there that have this horrible loss in common with us. We have decided to dedicate an event under the Brooklynn Project to our old and new friends who are also suffering with us in this pain. To join forces and to know that we are not alone is what we all need. Even though each one of us has reasons to give up – We are choosing joy, choosing life and giving to others. To stand united for something that is about more than just us, and in the process helping to heal our broken hearts and do something good in the names of our forever missed babies.
We are always in need of donations, sponsors, and volunteers. If you feel like this story touched your heart or if you want to be part of something that is out there to simply help others. Please go to Donation tab and click on what way you would like to join us. Thank you all for taking the time to read and support us, we couldn’t do this without you all!
